Now if that isn’t an “ad about nothing”, then I don’t know what is.
Except, of course, it’s about so many things that it would make my head spin if I start talking about it…

Enjoy the “apparent” randomness of this spot.

Country First

I think it’s cheap.
I think it’s borderline immoral.
I think it’s pure manipulation

but I also think it’s legitimate, genius, effective, powerful, and dangerous.

COUNTRY FIRST, the new campaing slogan/direction by the republican party, is now being over-highlighted following the Gustav disaster, in a move that may just win them the election. and it’s rooted in pure evil : profiting from a natural disaster and people’s distress to strengthen the campaign’s appeal. What a disgustingly good idea !

The concept itself is so smart and so layered, that many democrats will be lured to it. Basically, they’re inviting the country to forget about parties, and unite (“put on our American hats”). And it seems that that’s exactly what the country is waiting to hear.  And if there’s anything the republicans are good at, is giving us a false sense of security, hiding behind the idea of “national unity”, like it’s going to solve anything other than appease the egos, and give the angry something to chew on.

Also, this hurricane is doing them so much good it’s not even funny : Bush’s speech is cancelled (mccain must be on cloud 9), the party’s “human” image is boosted, they got some pity for cancelling day 1 of the convention, they got this new, exciting campaign tagline AND, most importantly, the government is actually handling Gustav very well so they’re scoring points there.

The republican campaign, as jon stewart smartly put it, is really trying to say : “Give us another chance, we won’t fuck up this time!“. Of course you won’t….

Dems, get your act on!
